Chapel Hill's Twilighter Announces June 5 Release Date for Did Feel Good
2 April, 2012 - Chapel Hill, NC -Twilighter and Tiny Canvas Records are proud to announce the 5 June 2012 release of their latest efforts, Did Feel Good.
Did Feel Good spans a number of genres. The songs deal with the themes of loss, resiliency, and hope for recovery. One can, in the span of one listen, experience a revved-up night at a rocking show, a humid southern summer evening, and time spent reminiscing with old friends.
Twilighter members include guitarist and vocalist Brandon Herndon (3rd Mind Collective), bass and guitar player Josh Sokal (Penny Prophets, Salt to Bitters), with Sonar Strange (Fantastico!) providing sultry vocals, occasional percussion, and keyboards. Playing a raw lead guitar, Tony Raver (Salt to Bitters) provides back-up screams (and random noises as needed). Drummer Dave Perry (Burke and the Vice Grips, Dirty Little Heaters) completes the membership roll-call, with a steadying pace that drives the band through rocking beats, punkish rave-ups, and edgy lovey-dovey numbers.
Highlights of the album include:
- "Out in the Country", an older song and local favorite, embodying the unique flavor of nearby Chatham County and its wide-open spaces. The song, conveying a feeling of solitude and loneliness, provides, through the stylings of Raver's guitar licks, Strange's organ flutterings, and Herndon's wavering and heartrending vocals, a feeling that is, according to one member, "like that mid-tempo feeling that depression can sometimes be when you've learned to live with it, yet it also has hope."
- "California", another upbeat tune about death/loss/depression/resiliency is the oldest tune on the album. This number explores the Twilighter formation at its best. It is a story about running away but not blindly, and not rationalizing one's departure under false pretences.
- "Len Bias", a classic old-timey, slow-dance number, was inspired by the Maryland basketball player who died of a cocaine overdose the night he learned he was a first-round draft pick. Penned by Herndon, the song succinctly conveys the feelings behind the loss of an idol, including the sense of dismay at seeing someone who was considered undefeatable fall to his own vices. The title of the album, Did Feel Good, also comes from a verse in this song.
Twilighter will be touring North Carolina in support of Did Feel Good this summer, as well as appearing on local radio talkshows. Did Feel Good will be available on 5 June.
